![]() This makes it more difficult for your online history to be tagged as yours if it is intercepted. When you're connected, the VPN sends and receives encrypted online information. And it does – on both desktop and mobile apps. For example, I looked to make sure the PIA kill switch cuts off your internet connection immediately when your connection fails. And to help you feel 100 percent comfortable with its VPN, PIA has made all its apps open source, which means you can look over the code to see if there's anything fishy in there.įor users that aren't tech-savvy enough to understand source code, I've delved deep into the program and tested out its features to look for any leaks or possible compromises to its services. Private Internet Access prides itself on its security services and includes several great features to ensure your privacy. (Image credit: Future) How private and secure is PIA? Sign up now on the Private Internet Access website.PIA supports a massive list of payment methods, from credit cards and gift cards to cryptocurrencies and bank transfers, so if you’re looking for a secure way to bag a bargain, PIA could be a great choice. Private Internet Access doesn't have a VPN free trial, but it does have a 30-day money-back guarantee. This is a little cheaper than NordVPN, but CyberGhost's comparative offering is far cheaper at just $2.25. This is an add-on that you choose during checkout and costs an additional $5/month, regardless of the subscription plan. One notable perk is that PIA has dedicated IP addresses that still fall under the privacy and security protection of its VPN. Plus, PIA often offers deals throughout the year that drop the price even further – currently, for instance, it's just $2.03 a month. And you get an extra two months, free, so it's really a 26-month subscription at a steal of a price. This is only $55 for the whole 2 years or $2.19/month. This is a fairly decent deal, but you really save money on the 2-year plan. PIA's 6-monthly plan is $45 for the entire subscription period, which works out to $7.50 per month. You really get a good deal if you sign up for either PIA's 6-month or 2-year plan. At $11.95/month it falls a little bit higher than most cheap VPN plans, though certainly not as high as some. Signing up for Private Internet Access on a monthly subscription isn't the best deal. Unblocks additional Netflix and streaming services.Very good at blocking trackers and malicious links.Dedicated IPs available in Switzerland and Japan.Overall, if you’re after a secure, stable VPN, Private Internet Access is a very worthwhile option that’s also eminently affordable if you choose its two-year subscription plan. Unfortunately, the written articles are a little sparse, but a positive is that a live chat feature was recently introduced, so that should cut query time down substantially. One of PIA’s weaker areas is its support. Other websites that are typically off-limits are open when you connect to a server in that area. Plus, access to geo-blocked content isn't limited to just streaming services. It also unblocks the BBC iPlayer, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video. PIA unblocks Netflix in a number of regions. This has been confirmed through an audit by independent third party Deloitte. ![]() All apps are open source, the kill switch was totally effective in my testing, and the no-logs policy seems watertight. You’ll get access to OpenVPN and WireGuard, and you’ll also be able to choose your level of encryption. PIA also has excellent privacy and security credentials. Torrenting is permitted on any server, and the port-forwarding function is tailored to P2P sharers.Ī neat addition to the PIA toolbox is the ‘piactl’ command line tool, which allows you write scripts for the app to follow – something quite unique in the consumer VPN market – as well as other useful features like port forwarding. Not many VPNs offer this service, and those that do aren't as easy, secure, or flexible. One of PIA's best features is its torrenting ability. This is because PIA has improved its speeds somewhat, and is even more secure on top of its already robust list of configurable functions and unique features. Since my last review, Private Internet Access has jumped up a spot in the rankings, coming in just under the top three providers, ExpressVPN, NordVPN, and Surfshark. However, if you don't fancy signing up for years at a time, expect to pay more, with the monthly plan coming in at a hefty $11.99. Regular price is around $2.19 a month on the two-year plan, but offer like the VPN Black Friday deal can drop this even lower. Private Internet Access is typically a fairly cheap provider if you're willing to sign up for a lengthy plan. As a result of this compression, the ferrule effectively bites into the tube, thus creating a strong grip and a tight seal. When the fitting’s nut is tightened, the ferrule is compressed between the nut and the receiving fitting. In contrast to threaded fittings, compression tube fittings commonly utilize ferrules to create a leak-tight seal. ![]() It can be beneficial, though, to standardize the use of one type versus the other throughout a facility to reduce potential confusion or misapplication. Generally, available threaded fittings adhere to common standards British Standard Pipe (BSP) and the National Pipe Thread (NPT) are two of the most common. Tapered threads are effective for system pressures up to 15000 psi.Īside from the noted system pressure limits, the choice between straight or tapered threaded connections is often guided by user preference. Straight threads are typically used when system pressure will not exceed 5000 psi. Tapered threads will be effective for system pressures up to 15000 psi. A good sealant will also help prevent galling (a phenomenon where two surfaces in contact seize up as a result of cold welding) during installation. A thread sealant or thread tape is required to fill in the gaps between the crests and the roots to prevent system fluids from leaking at the connection. They are constructed at an angle in relation to the centerline, whereas straight threads are parallel to the centerline. Tapered threads, meanwhile, are designed to seal as the male and female threads are drawn together. For this reason, straight threads are typically used in applications where system pressure will not exceed 5000 psi. ![]() Straight threads are designed to hold a nut onto the body of a tube fitting and rely on supplemental items, including gaskets, O-rings, or metal-to-metal contact to create a leak-tight seal. Threaded fittings come in two distinct varieties: those with straight or parallel threads, and those with tapered threads. Male threads are inserted into female threads. Threaded fittings make a connection by attaching two threaded pieces, one male (where threads project on the outside of the fitting) and the other female (where threads are found inside the fitting). How should you choose the right fitting for your needs? Let’s investigate several common fitting types along with their specific characteristics and advantages: Threaded Fittings There are a variety of types of fittings to choose from, however, and it may not always be clear which is the best choice when you’re performing maintenance on an existing system or building a new one. It’s an app that I go out of my way to tell people about - it’s just that good. By hovering over the Dock icons of certain apps, it’s possible to enjoy enhanced functionality like music controls, calendar events, etc. Lastly, you might enjoy the fact that HyperDock adds special window previews to certain apps like Calendar, iTunes, and even Spotify. For example, you can easily use HyperDock to snap a 2×2 grid of windows together in order to display four apps on screen at once. While it’s true that Apple implemented iOS 9-esque side-by-side multitasking in OS X El Capitan, HyperDock’s window snapping capabilities bring much more flexibility to the table. Along with tons of customization options to change the look and size of said previews, the utility adds window snapping into the mix. For instance, if your Twitter timeline is refreshed, you’ll see a preview of the timeline’s latest state, even if the app is minimized into the Dock.īut HyperDock doesn’t just stop with window previews. It even updates the small preview screenshot of the apps running in your Dock to show their current state. The great thing about HyperDock is that the previews can be large enough to actually display content therein. HyperDock will allow you to preview both windows right from the dock without opening either window. I find HyperDock to be especially useful when you have more than one window open for a single application. When HyperDock is active, simply hovering over an open app in the Dock will reveal a small preview window displaying its current state. HyperDock ( $9.99 on the Mac App Store) is a must-have app for OS X in my eyes, as it brings the ability to preview what’s running in the dock without fully opening an app window. Thankfully, there’s a handy Mac utility that allows you to preview app windows by hovering over icons in the Dock. But enabling such a feature comes with its own caveat - it’s hard to know exactly what’s behind an app icon on the Dock once you’ve minimized its respective windows. For that reason, I rush to enable the “Minimize window into application icon” option (found in System Preferences → Dock) after every new install. There are a few items on the list, however, that are staples in my opinion.įor example, I would hate it if every minimized window on OS X occupied its own space on the Dock. As stated in that walkthrough, I don’t consider every recommendation on the list to be an absolute must-follow for new Mac users. Yesterday, I presented a list of 10 different tips that I thought any new Mac owner should know. Also, the PSU will accumulate much more dust because of no fan filter, and there is also a risk of something dropping inside the PSU through the fan grill, which may cause serious damage to your power supply. ![]() This is because if you keep the fan up then the cooling performance of the PSU will get compromised because the fan will suck hot air that is inside the case, instead of cool air and blows it on the PSU components. I strongly advise not to keep the PSU fan upwards if you have a case with a bottom vent with an air filter installed. You can clearly see this in the image given below. This allows the PSU fan to suck air from the bottom and the air gets expelled out from the rear side. So, if you have such a provision then the PSU fan should be positioned downwards. Almost all these PC cases have vents at the bottom where the PSU fits and most of them have dust filters installed at the vents to prevent the dust from getting to the fan and PSU components. Most modern-day computer cases have a bottom-mounted PSU design. Bottom Mounted PSU PC Case With Bottom Vents There are only two positions where computer cases allow you to mount the PSU, which is either on the top or at the bottom. So, here I am going to tell you how to properly mount your power supply, and whether the fan side should remain up or down, depending on different conditions and types of PC cases. It is very important to mount the PSU in a correct manner or orientation because if you do it wrong then you can restrict the PSU airflow, and it can result in damage to the power supply and maybe some other components. Here the rear 80mm fan works as an exhaust fan for the PSU. Note: Some older and cheaper Power Supplies come with an 80mm fan at the rear. ![]() You can see the PSU airflow in the diagram given below. This fan works as an intake fan for the PSU that sucks in air and blows it on the components inside the PSU, where then it exits from the rear vents of the power supply. ![]() Almost all the modern-day standard ATX power supplies come with a 120mm fan that is mounted on the top/bottom side. Yes, there are some fanless PSUs available too but they are quite expensive and are also not that popular. It can get hot during load and for this, it comes equipped with a fan for cooling. PSU or Power Supply Unit is one of the most important components of a PC because it is the only component that provides power to all your internal computer components including a processor, motherboard, hard drive, SSD, graphics card, case fans, etc. |
